The power of a surrendered heart
“Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Romans 12:1
Today, we feel a lot of pressure to perform well and do the right things. Sometimes, we can get the impression that this is what matters most to God, too. A perfect household. A perfect prayer life. Perfect habits. But there is something even more important to Him: He is looking for surrendered hearts.
Surrender Means Trusting God Completely
Throughout Scripture, God used ordinary men and women who were willing to surrender their will to Him. We cannot even do this on our own—the desire to surrender comes from God (Philippians 2:13). But we still have a choice to make. Do I want to trust Him completely? Do I want to choose His timing over mine? Do I believe that His plans are always the best?
Surrender is more than saying, “Lord, I believe.” It is choosing His will when it clearly differs from our own. Then and only then do we become powerful instruments for God’s glory. We cannot experience God’s best while resisting His will.
Surrender Brings Transformation
When we surrender something to Jesus, He changes us from the inside out. He renews our mind, shapes our character, and helps us become more like Him. We cannot see the Holy Spirit’s working on the heart. His work is invisible, just like the wind (John 3:8). But the transformation that comes afterwards is powerful and clearly noticeable. Our thoughts and habits change. We become more loving, humble, and peaceful. Joy begins to take the place of sadness. And so, many times—if we are willing—God changes our hearts before He changes our circumstances.
Surrender Leads to Purpose
Here is the beauty of full surrender: it leads to a life of purpose. The greatest impact comes from being fully available to God. He uses surrendered people to bless others and advance His kingdom. A life yielded to Him becomes a testimony of His grace, love, and power.
Today, God is asking for more than your words—He is asking for your heart. Lay your fears, dreams, plans, and burdens before Him. Trust Him with every area of your life. Always remember: Your surrendered heart is never wasted in God’s hands. It is the beginning of a life that honors Him and fulfills His purpose.
“The great outpouring of the Spirit of God, which lightens the whole earth with His glory, will not come until we have an enlightened people, that know by experience what it means to be laborers together with God. When we have entire, wholehearted consecration to the service of Christ, God will recognize the fact by an outpouring of His Spirit without measure; but this will not be while the largest portion of the church are not laborers together with God.”
